Unit 1

HOW IS LIFE UNIQUE?
Our first unit takes us through biomolecules and homeostasis.  We will learn about different biomolecules and their specific functions in our bodies.  All body process rely on different biomolecules - that help to maintain a balance, or homeostasis in our body.
Quiz Dates for Unit 1
LT#1 9/6
LT#2 9/13
LT#3 9/23
LT#4 10/8
Unit 1 Assessment 10/11
Learning Targets/Goals
all students receive a LEARNING TARGET PROGRESS REPORT at the beginning of a unit.  This paper is required for all re-takes.  Students will monitor their progress toward mastery throughout our course with this document.
  1. I CAN describe the four biomolecules and explain where they are found and how they are used in our cells.
  2. I CAN identify and explain the factors that affect enzyme function.
  3. I CAN model and describe the processes of diffusion/osmosis and how the cell uses them to maintain homeostasis.
  4. I CAN identify a positive or negative feedback loop and describe how they help cells/organisms to maintain homeostasis
At the culmination of our Unit 1 work, all students will be able to complete the I CAN statements above.
