Pedigrees/ Punnett

Squares

Essential Question

How are biological traits inherited?

We inherit our traits from our parents.  Every single chromosome that we have in our body came from our mom and our dad.  But how????  We will talk about that in coming weeks!  For now, we want to look at how to track this inheritance!  This means, we want to find out where our traits and characteristics come from!!  To do this we use two different tools, PEDIGREES and PUNNETT SQUARES.
I CAN STATEMENTS
  1. I CAN ANALYZE A PEDIGREE
  2. I CAN IDENTIFY THE INHERITANCE PATTERN IN A PEDIGREE
  3. I CAN DEVELOP A PUNNETT SQUARE
Amoeba sisters video on pedigrees:  if you are confused, or need more clarification, this video gives great examples and definitions to help with understanding pedigrees and analyzing them!
This is the presentation that discusses the notes for pedigrees.    There is audio that goes along with the presentation, so make sure your volume is turned up.
Amoeba sisters video on punnett squares:  if you need a little help with how to set them up, or how to calculate the probability check out the video.  Also a great resource if you were absent!
